Working on the House

Saturday we got up and went over to my parents house to help work. I was to stay with Dad while Mom went to work. After about 5 hours of being down at the house we finally were able to get Dad out and to the apartment so he could rest and keep his hand elevated like a good boy! We all could tell it was driving him crazy not to be able to just do the floor himself. We tried to keep him sitting in his recliner in the middle of the room, but it didn't last long. He kept picking tools up and measure things. He was so nervous about making sure the hardwood floor was perfect and put down how he wanted it... the key there is how HE wanted it! Jared reminded me today and my Mom reminded me just this past week that I got that trait from my Dad, wanting things done right - which is MY way! Thanks Dad;)

After I got Dad home and situated in his recliner with his hand elevated I got him some lunch and pain pills. He sent me on a few errands around town. When Mom got home I decided to go down to the house to see how the floor was coming along. It looked great! Breanne and Justin were still there working so I sent Jared home to get some homework done and I stayed and helped with the floor. (Sorry Jare, I don't know why I let you go without taking a picture of your working on the floor!) I actually really enjoyed it. It was a lot of work but rewarding. We had Mom go get Dad so he could take a peek at what was going on. I think he really like it. The hardwood floor is Hickory - I think, correct me Mom if I am wrong! Two of the biggest things we had to make sure of while doing the floor was to make sure we had tight seams and no gaps (Dad said if he came and there were gaps he would rip up the floor and start over!) Also he didn't want any type of noticable pattern. So if the layout looks totally random in the pcitures, it is! That is how the boss wanted it!

After I would pound and fit in a piece of wood Breanne was right behind me using the nail gun to secure them in place. I look behind me and she was trying to snooze on the floor! She was so excited to have a floor to lay on.

Early April Fool's?

SNOW! SNOW!

We took this picture right after church TODAY! Somehow with my amazing picture taking skills I captured snow falling right infront of my face! It looks like I have some type of skin disorder by my nose!

When Jared got home from work this morning he told me it had snowed! Snow at the end of March? Looks like mother nature played an early April Fool's joke on us. Jared is not laughing though. I'm not sure if the forecast showes more snow, I don't really mind it. I just hope we don't skip over Spring and go straight into Summer. I love all the Spring flowers and the rain!


You can see all the snow on our cars and on our neighbor's roof. Jared took the Durango to work his graveyard shift and then we took it to church so it doesn't have snow on it.

Dad's Injury and Surgery!

This is the weapon that was used in Dad's accident! You can see the blood on the board. FYI: Don't read this story if you can't stand to see blood!

While Dad was working on the house yesterday afternoon he had an accident with his table saw. Breanne was there (you can read more on this on her blog as well!) and was able to hurry and take him down to the clinic. My doctor that I work for had just left to go to the hospital so another doctor that was just starting his lunch break started taking care of him. When they walked in I looked at his hand and was shocked at how bad it was. Breanne was freaking out on the phone when she called me to say she was bringing him down - I soon saw why! I told them to go into the Procedure Room and I called down to Dr. Porter that this was a lot worse than I thought and wanted him to come up and look at it before I took him down to X-Ray. I have never seen Dad in so much pain! Dr. Porter was being very gentle looking to see what he needed to do. (Justin however got light headed and I had to get him lying down in an exam room before he hit the floor!) I asked Dr. Porter if I could get Dad something for the pain, he said yes. I left the room to go draw up his pain shot. One nurse asked if I was alright because I ran over to the lock box to get his Demerol. I said I was but my Dad was in here for a saw to hand injury. I tried to draw up the shot but was shaking so bad I couldn't! I passed it to the other nurse and she quickly drew it up for me. I got back to the room and Dr. Porter was just doing a numbing block to his ring finger and thumb so he could go to X-Ray. I gave him his pain shot and he went down to get X-Ray's.

If you look close at the X-Ray in the middle you can see where his ring finger is turned to the side where it is dislocated. The best one is on my phone - sorry!


Final Diagnosis: Hamburgered Left Hand Requiring Surgery!
Pinkey finger lacerated and 4 stitches required. Middle finger lacerated and 6 stitches required. Thumb was cut through the bone and lacerated. Ring finger dislocated, cut tendon, fracture and you guessed it... lacerated! Dr. Porter was able to get his finger straighten out but had to put a stitch on the side because if his finger got bumped it would flop over. (Sounds nasty, but at the clinic this is the stuff we love the most!) The only finger on his left had that was not affected was his pointer finger. (These pictures don't even almost compare to what it really looked like and the best pictures are on my cell phone!) Dr. Porter did a great job, we really appreciate that he was there and willing to work through his lunch time to help Dad!

After Dr. Porter stitched his pinkey and middle finger we were waiting to see if he could get into the surgeon right then for surgery. His wounds had all been cleaned but you can see the thumb is pretty chewed up looking!

So after trying every Orthopedic Hand Surgeon from here to SLC he was not able to get an appointment for surgery until today at 3:00 with Dr. Sandersen. They called him in 2 hours earlier though. I sat with Mom at the hospital waiting for him to get out of surgery. (After a big fight between the surgeon and the anesthesiologist.) He had the whole 2 hour plus surgery with only local anesthesia! Whew! What a champ! He is the toughest man I know. When he came out of surgery Mom and I were there, he looked so good! He wanted to go home and get something to eat! During surgery they placed a few pins and a bone graft for the tip of his thumb - he had cut the tip off! (It is still in question if he will be able to use or feel the tip of his thumb.) For his ring finger they had to do a tendon repair and place 4 pins.

For those of you who know my Dad well know that he doesn't smile for pictures! Look at this one - right out of surgery and happy ready to get out of there!

The goofy grin in this picture is on purpose - he is not high on meds! Dad is showing off his "One size fits all" surgical underwear. He thought this was so funny - he and the surgeon were cracking jokes about it. It looks more like a Subway ad to me!


We are all so grateful that his surgery went well! Tomorrow I will be sitting with Dad while Mom goes to work. That is if I can keep him at home with his hand elevated! I made Dad some white choc. chip cookies tonight (one of his favorites) so maybe I can bribe him to be good!

HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATIE!!

Today is Katies 9th birthday! (Jared's little sister.) Katie is the youngest of five and the only girl, which means she is one tuff cookie! She enjoys art, making others smile and laugh, playing outside, playing sports and being with her family. Katie is always making us things from bead bracelets, cute cards with the Cricut and writing stories. Katie is starting to like the idea of having an older sister, which I love! I have always wanted a little sister. We hope you have a great birhtday Katie Lou, we love you!

I'M TOTALLY ADDICTED!!!

As you can see from the time posted at the bottom it is way past any sane person's bed time! Why am I still awake? I am officially addicted to blogging! I know I am not the only one though! What is it about blogging that keeps us up so late? It will still be here in the morning. Why can't I just walk away? Tonight I got home around 10:30 after going to Wal-Mart with Breanne. I put my groceries away and poured myself some milk. I then thought I would quickly do a blog check and go to bed. Oh, no I thought wrong! It is past 1 am and I am still awake peeping into other peoples lives! (I don't however feel totally bad about this.) While I have been clicking from blog to blog just looking to see if I knew anyone I have found a few people I do know... or atleast recognize! I've found the following while blog surfing (if that is what it is actually called:>)
* The blog of someone I visit teach.
* One of my patients blogs. (I went to the delivery of her baby a few years ago. I know their family well so I left a comment!)
* An old family friend from California.
* The family that sat in front of us a church a few weeks ago.
* My cousin's girlfriend's blog - She looks super cute. His little boy is getting so big! See what a nice little update that was!

Small world huh! (Or not so small because I am the one LOOKING for people I know.) As you can tell I am way too tired to be posting! (That means to excuse the typo's of any kind! and the fact that this post has a lot of this ( ) action going on in it. I'm a bit confused on what that is all about, sorry!) If Jared were home I would be asleep - but he is working his long graveyard weekend shifts so I am here to blog, blog, blog!! I expect a call from him shortly after posting this! He checks on the blog at work sometimes. I better hurry and go to bed, what am I thinking? I have to get up and go to work in the morning! Goodnight.

Yeah! Our Tax Return........

We recently got our tax return and have been deciding what to spend it on. So today we spent it all... well almost all of it. First we went down to the Credit Union and payed off Jared's car. YEAH! One less car payment! It feels so nice to have it payed off. To celebreate we decided we would go buy tennis rackets with part of the money that was left over. Jared and I both have always wanted to play tennis but never have learned. Jared's younger brother, Taylor who is currently on the High School tennis team (and hasn't lost a match yet!) went with us to get our tennis gear. We played for the first time tonight with Jared's two younger brothers Taylor and Jace. It was so much fun! We both loved it. I am so excited to keep playing. Jared has never been very competitive at sports but tonight he started getting a little competitive. Maybe Tennis is just in his genes! Our goal is to be able to 1) get in better shape and 2) be able to smoke Tye and Taylor at a match next summer when Tye comes home from his mission!! (Tye was also very good at Tennis and played on the High School team.) A big thanks to Taylor for teaching us how to play and for being patient!

Las Vegas weekend

Spring Break!

Last week was Spring Break for Jared, even though it snowed 2" this weekend! So I also took work off so we could spend some time together. Thursday we slept in, which doesn't happen too often around here! We rented August Rush it was such a cute movie that we will need to purchase. That night we went to dinner in Sandy to Texas Road House (one of our favorites) it was delicious as usual!

Friday Jared had more Physical Therapy and I had an eye doctor's vist and then we met up for his follow up workmen's comp. doctor visit. He got the OK to go back to work on the 20th, if all goes well with Physical Therapy for the rest of this week. Yeah! He is so anxious to go back to work and get back into the swing of his crazy life. Friday afternoon my Mom and I went down to Las Vegas for the funeral of a friends little 10 week old baby, Jacey. It was a beautiful service. We are so glad we got to share time with them. It was sad to be in those circumstances to see them again after 3 or 4 years! It was a quick trip but well worth it! We love them so much and pray for their continued strength through their trials!

While on our weekend trip we were stopped due to 4-5 accidents. People need to slow down! I took some picutres. Hey, if I'm gonna sit in traffic and loose time in my life I might as well have pictures to see why I was just sitting there! Friday night Mom and I went down to the "strip" to check things out. I have never been so worried about being mugged in my whole life! I was clutching onto my purse so tight. (I even got Jewelers insurance on my ring the night before just incase anyone stole it!) We went to Circus Circus and ate at The Garden Grill sounds yummy right? I ordered a Fiesta Salad, when it came it didn't have any beans or rice! What it did have was a oil based green dressing, that was nasty. Inside this beautiful taco shell was atleast a full head of lettuce, avocado slices and chicken. Who makes a Fiesta Salad without the Fiesta part? (I did have to stop on our way home in St.George at Cafe Rio so I could have my tasty salad that comes with beans, rice and delicious green dressing!) I could have eaten a little bit of it had the waiter ever come back to check on us so I could get some ranch dressing! But, no he didn't come back for 45 minutes! By then I had shared Mom's dinner of Steak and Lobster. Which by the way was so good! I decided I should get some dessert after having such a flavorless salad. So I ordered Banana Fantasy, it was just that a fantasy! It was the best banana rolled in cinnamon and sugar, topped with vanilla bean ice cream smoothered in rum caramel sauce I have ever had! MMM, I can taste it now!

All in all it was a good weekend! It was nice to be back home, sleep in my own bed, and see Jared! I think Jared was a little lonely here by himself - but lived through it and an unexpected walk-through appraisal that our land lords sprung on him an hour before it happened!

Physical Therapy

Jared hurt his back during a "take down" at work. (Jared works as a tech on the Behavioral Health floor at the hospital. At times when patients get violent they have to take them down. In this case the young man was trying to hurt his visitors so Jared had to restrain and "take him down" by himself while another tech got the visitors out of the room.) He now is going to Physical Therapy a few times a week to help loosen up his back so he can go back to work! Today I was off of work so I got to go along to take pictures. It was really cool.

This is a heated Ultra Sound! It can send waves of heat into the muscles up to 3 1/2 to 4 inches deep and not burn your skin. Gees, looks like he went to a spa and got pampered! Jared said this felt so good and was his favorite part.

Our Weekend!

On Saturday we went to dinner at California Pizza Kitchen, one of our favorites! It was so yummy. We had a long, busy week so it was nice to just go out together. We had Breanne take some pictures of us. For some reason it will not upload my pictures right now - so we will try that again later! GURR!


Jared doesn't like to take pictures as much as I do! He likes to pull that face that would make your mother say "If you do that to your face it will stay like that forever!"

Breanne, Kristina and I have joined a scrapbooking group. Lastnight was our first night. It is SO fun! I am way excited to keep going and add some creativity to my life. Jared came to Breanne's house to pick me up. On our way home he said he wanted to go do something fun, something spontaneous! I was up for an adventure even though I was way tired. we drove down the street by his parents house, he wanted to go get his longboard and go boarding. I told him "No, it is 11:00 at night, cold and I don't know how to longboard, you go and I will go to bed!" He didn't like that idea so we decided to go get some ice cream.

The only place open was Macey's, so we bought some ice cream and came home. It cracked me up that we are so lame that our spontaneous outting was to the local grocery store! We still had fun though!

YEAH! MUSIC!!

Wahoo!! I figured out how to add music to the blog! Jared did help me though - so thanks to him we have tunes to listen to when you are checking things out. It has a few songs that we both like - we will probally add more later but for now it is good.

The first song on the list is "White Trash Beautiful" by Everlast. It goes along great with our White Trash picture posted with our 10 month anniversary post! There is a song on there from One Republic. They are an amazing group. We both love the CD. There also are a few songs from Coheed and Cambria, Jared gave me this CD for my birthday and we both have really liked it. Just a side note here: Cambria is one of the few names that we both have agreed on to one day name our daughter! Here hidden in the middle is Miley Cyrus. I love this song! It is a total teenage bopper song - but she has a good voice and I really do crank up the radio when it comes on! I'm sure people are laughing at me as I am driving in the Durango without kids just singing my heart out! "Love like this" and "Realize" are two songs that I just really like and find myself singing a few lines from all the time. Trans-Siberian Orchestra is our very favorite Christmas music. It is our tradition to see them in concert. They put on an amazing show! If you haven't seen them in concert you should - it is worth the money. They are usually on stage for 3-4 straight hours, it is amazing the talent they have! The last song is one by All that Remains this is one of Jared's bands. I am not a big fan, but did allow the intro of this song (the part before you get a headache) to be on our wedding video. Now that is what I like to call love! Heavy metal music on a wedding video is a sacrifice!

Happy 10 month Anniversary!

Today is our 10 month anniversary! I can't believe it has been that long. Time is going by so fast. I feel like we have grown so much as a couple. I decided I need to have a goal to tell Jared how much I really appreciate what he does for me. I tease him a lot and joke a lot with other people about us, I don't want anyone to think I don't love and appreciate all he does for me and us as a family. So what if he wants to post on MY blog - it does say Jared AND Davian Johnson at the top! He really is a wonderful husband! I can be one moody chick to put up with all day long - I guess that is why he works graveyards! But the point of this post is to tell you all that Jared is a stud, and to tell him that I love him!




Jared keeps telling me he is going to put this picutre on our blog with his post that he wants to do! So Happy 10 month anniversary I did it for you. No, no for those of you that don't know Jared very well this is not how he looks on a daily basis! Here is the story of the nappy facial hair we have in the picture here: One day I came home from work and he decided to shave his nice looking beard into this white-trash redneck mustache! It made me laugh and we took some pictures but right after that he had to go shave it off! So this picture is what I like to call WHITE-TRASH BEAUTIFUL!
